Diane Doran

Biography

Diane Doran, R.N., Ph.D., F.C.A.H.S., joined the Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto in 1995, where she served as associate dean of research and international relations (2001-2006), interim dean (2005), and is currently a full Professor and holds the position of Lawrence S. Bloomberg Professor in patient safety. Her research focuses on outcomes measurement, knowledge translation, patient safety, and ehealth. She is currently engaged in an innovative investigation into the use of handheld devices to improve nurses’ collection, utilization, and communication of health information at the point-of-care. Dr. Doran is Deputy Director of the Nursing Health Services Research Unit, Faculty of Nursing and is a member of the Research and Evaluation Committee of the Canadian Patient Safety Research Institute. She is an elected member of the Canadian Academy of Health Science, and a recipient of the Ontario Premier’s Research Excellence Award. Her research has been recognized by the Canadian Association of University Schools of Nursing Award of Excellence; the Dorothy Pringle Research Excellence Award, Sigma Theta Tau International, Lambda Pi Chapter; and most recently through the Canadian Nurses’ Association Centennial Award.
