Rafik Goubran

Biography

Rafik Goubran received a Ph.D in electrical engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, in 1987. He joined the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, where he is now Professor. He was the Chair of the Department from 1997 to 2006 and is now Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He was involved in several research projects with industry and government organizations in the area of digital signal processing, biomedical engineering, VoIP, sensors, noise and echo cancellation, microphone arrays, and the design of smart independent living environments for seniors. Dr. Goubran completed the supervision of 12 PhD students and 51 Master's students. He co-authored 22 journal papers, 80 conference papers, and 9 patents during the past 6 years. Dr. Goubran is the founding Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering, a member of the association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, and a research scientist at the Elisabeth Bruyère Research Institute. Dr. Goubran is the current Chair of the Council of Ontario Deans of Engineering (CODE).
